Sammanfattning
This article provides a short introduction to the Vancouver protocol (uniform requirements for
manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals) and presents two aspects of importance in respect of
scientific papers, namely authorship and computerized references. The order of authorship is
important in healthcare research as it demonstrates a ranking of contributions to the text. Literature
references follow a standard for "in-text-citations" and references. The Vancouver protocol provides
examples of how different types of literature should be cited. Finally, the article also presents a
selection of software programs, including both conventional and newer "open source" products, for
use when referencing literature.
