Sammanfattning
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and orofacial
pain occur in approximately 10-15 percent of
the population. For the dentist, the profession that
usually meets patient’s first with TMD and orofacial
pain, it is not only important to be able to identify
and diagnose the condition. It is also important to
be able to make a well-grounded decision whether
to treat or to refer to a specialist to limit the chance
that the pain will develop into a chronic pain condition.
The purpose of this article is to provide theoretical
knowledge to general dentists in the diagnosis
of TMD and orofacial pain, including new
diagnostic criteria DC/TMD. DC/TMD improves
the clinical basis for treatment planning and prognosis
by the simultaneous diagnosis of clinical conditions
and assessment of psychosocial health.
