Erfaringer med å få og ta ansvar for bedringsprosessen og sitt eget liv gjennom basal
eksponeringsterapi (BET)
Sammanfattning
When people spend years of their lives as inpatients in mental health care, the traditional
explanation is «chronic mental illness». Alternatively, such conditions may result from marginalizing
interactions between the patient and the health care system. Treatment approaches are therefore
needed that emphasize responsibility and autonomy. This article presents Basal Exposure Therapy
(BET) and data from a qualitative study of how recipients of BET experienced to be assigned
responsibility for their own lives. The findings indicate that empowerment and assignment of
responsibility for change to the individual in treatment can be essential for recovery.
