Sammanfattning
The purpose of this survey was to study treatment of deep carious lesions in primary molars. All
dentists in the public dental service in five counties in Norway received an electronic questionnaire.
The dentists were asked about their perception of occurrence and treatment of deep caries and their
attitude towards treatment of deep caries in primary molars. The questionnaire was returned by 193
dentists (63 %). Almost half of the dentists reported to diagnose deep carious lesions in primary
molars weekly or more often. One fifth of the dentists stated that they performed acute treatment due
to deep carious lesions in primary molars weekly or more often. Near half of the dentists stated that
they usually used bitewing radiography on five-year-old children. One fifth of the dentists performed
incomplete excavation in deep carious lesions in primary molars weekly or more often. Pulp
treatments, direct pulp capping, partial pulpotomy and pulpotomy, in primary molars were seldom
performed. Most of the dentists completely or partially agreed that they had the time to perform
optimal dental treatment of deep carious lesions and that they executed the treatment they
considered optimal for the child.
