Sammanfattning
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether updated information about the patient's
drug use is recorded in the dental record.
Persons older than 60 years of age, visiting five dental clinics in Bergen received a request to
participate in the study. Drug use reported by the patient was compared with information about drug
use recorded in the dental record health form. The occurrence of discrepancies was identified and the
clinical significance of the discrepancies was assessed.
It was shown that 50 % of the drug use reported by patients was not recorded in the health form in the
dental record. Of the drugs not recorded in the health form 86 % was prescription only medicine. No
natural medicines, herbal remedies or dietary supplements were recorded in the health form. For
drugs not recorded in the health form 58 % were judged as important or very important for the dentist
to be aware of.
Conclusion: Discrepancies between patients' reported drug use and drug usage recorded in the
health form in the dental record is common. A significant part of these discrepancies may be of
clinical significance.
