Sammanfattning

Everyday life habits are an important perspective in health promotion. The article is about processes of change. A theoretical concept about habits is created based on phenomenological and Marxist-inspired theories about everyday life. This conceptualization of habits is used in analyzing a case from ethnographic fieldwork in relation to a lifestyle intervention. The point of the article is that a theoretical conceptualization of habits can be fruitful in an understanding of the complexity and ambivalence in processes of change. Habits which seem unhealthy can contain subjective meaning for the individual. Such a way of thinking has the potential to minimize frustration among professionals and individuals who intend to change habits in everyday life.
