Sammanfattning
October 2013 the Danish National Board of Health released
clinical guidelines for setting recall intervals in dental
practice. The guidelines are based on the concept that dental
recall should be set individually with respect to the patient’s
current disease status, and the patient´s risk of developing
new disease. Based on this information patients are assigned
to a green, yellow or red track. This review describes the
rationale behind the guidelines and shows how they may be
used for caries control in daily dental practice. The review
illustrates how to perform caries lesion activity assessment,
identify caries risk factors, implement non-operative caries
treatment, and monitor the caries-active patient over time,
clinically as well as radiographically. Furthermore, clinical
decision trees are presented to aid the dentist in choosing
between operative and non-operative treatment.
