Sammanfattning
Introduction - Computerized anaesthesia has been available for
some years and is used in Danish municipal dental health services, but reports on experiences with
the use of the method and
possible side effects are scarce.
Objective - To study the use and experience of computerized
anaesthesia in Danish municipal dental health services, as reported by the dentists, including
possible side effects of the method.
Study design - Questionnaires were sent to 88 Danish municipal
dental health services. Forty-three (49%) responded and in 27
(63%) of the services 72 dentists used the method and filled in
and returned the questionnaire.
Results - The number of years working as a dentist did not
seem to have an impact on how easy or difficult it was to use
the system. Among the dentists using the technique (n=72),
only 9 (13%) reported side effects. The majority of the participating dentists (94%) found the method
easy to use; but only
16% reported that they never had to supplement this with other
analgesic methods or types of anaesthetics in order to achieve
sufficient pain control.
Conclusions - Computerized anaesthesia is used in the Danish
municipal dental health services. Various side effects and usually a need for supplementary
analgesia to obtain sufficient pain
control were reported.
