Sammanfattning

Recent prevalence of parental support programs in Sweden, such as Community Parent Education (COPE), is an effect of governmental efforts to promote children’s psychosocial wellbeing. In Sweden COPE is considered of special relevance for immigrant parents. However, the content of the COPE manual undergoes several alterations as it travels to Sweden where it finally reaches its recipients. This article explores what happens with the manuals substance as it is subjected to these cultural transformations. We show that, while the manual is principally relied on as a primary guide for programs, some cultural adjustments of its content do take place in order to reach the immigrant parents. The study also shows that most parents find COPE useful as it helps them feel more confident in their role as parents.
