Sammanfattning
In recent years, more and more focus has been on patients' perception of the treatment outcome
after single-tooth implant treatment. Several methods for both professional and subjective evaluation
of the implant treatment have been used. On the other hand, there is no validated and generally
accepted questionnaire for the assessment of patient satisfaction after treatment with single-tooth
implants.
It has been revealed that relevant and adequate information before implant treatment correlates with
high patient satisfaction after treatment. Overall, a high degree of satisfaction with the aesthetic
treatment outcome has been documented by both patients and dentists. However, the patients are in
general more satisfied with the aesthetic result than the dentists. In other words, dentists are often
more critical than the patients. A high degree of patient satisfaction with single-tooth implant
treatment is often correlated to the satisfaction with the prosthetic part (crown), while the peri-implant
soft tissue seems to have more minute weight. Some studies have reported that the subjective need
for a tooth replacement is highest when the lost tooth is located in the anterior part of the jaws. Thus,
patients seem more willing to pay for a tooth replacement for aesthetic than functional reasons.
