Sammanfattning

Purpose: This article provides an overview of treatments for edema caused by bradykinin with a special focus on the disease hereditary angioedema. At the same time the purpose is to focus attention on other new medicines that can cause such edema. Background: Several alternative drugs that can be used to treat and prevent edema caused by bradykinin are now available. The introduction of other new drugs in the treatment of diabetes and heart failure, inhibit the metabolism of peptides and may lead to such edema. Conclusion: Angioedema caused by ACE inhibitors is a well-known side effect and it is possible that other new drugs also will lead to such bradykinin-triggered edema. The attention of pharmacists to this problem can contribute to effective treatment that is now available.
