Framtidstro og underordning: En lesning av tolv laereböker i psykiatrisk sykepleie og psykiatri
Sammanfattning
This article analyses Norwegian textbooks in psychiatric nursing and psychiatry, published
between 1877 and 2012. The study shows that the textbooks mainly make use of the dark history of
psychiatry to legitimize the practice of today. The textbooks also generally present nurses as
subordinate to physicians. Despite the nurses’ striving for independence by emphasizing other
subject areas than psychiatry, the knowledge is characterized by a psychiatric perspective on mental
health problems. In the final part of the article, these findings are discussed in light of patients’
experience of insulting treatment and lack of care.
