Sammanfattning
Co-production is today seen as a prominent means in the development of future welfare
services. Partnership, cooperation and interaction between service users and service providers, but
also families, voluntary organizations, networks and the civil society, are included. In Norway, co-
production particularly has been influential in the discussions about the future policy and service
development in the area of care. In the same way as in the advertising for the chocolate Kinder Egg,
co-production promises to fulfil three wishes at the same time. Firstly, the services will turn out to be
more democratic. Further, they will obtain higher quality and thirdly, co-production will help the
welfare state maintain its sustainability. With basis in the care field, the following questions will be
discussed in the article: Firstly, are there any fundamental tensions in the co-production ideology,
which have not been placed on the agenda? Secondly, are there any exaggerated expectations to
what challenges co-production can solve? The conclusion is that in a debate about the role of co-
production in the future care services such issues must be brought forth.
