Sammanfattning
Antibiotic multi-resistance is a growing worldwide
problem. Mostly attention has been paid to
MRSA (meticillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus)
and VRE (vancomycin resistant enterococci),
and amongst the enteric rods, ESBL (extended
spectrum beta-lactamase) strains (Escherichia coli
and Klebsiella spp). The frequency of oral infections
with these bacteria is low but it is highly likely
that an increase will occur. Most oral infections
with Staph. aureus, enterococci and aerobic gramnegative
bacilli (AGNB) occur as opportunistic infections
as the majority are connected with older
patients and patients with immune-compromised
conditions. If multi-resistant strains occur in oral
infections such cases need to be registered in the
national database, as these bacteria also occur in
healthy individuals, patients as well as personal,
on the skin, in the nose in addition to the oral cavity.
Thus, the risk of spreading of these bacteria
between individuals in the dental clinic environment
must be highlighted, which would help to ensure
that basic mandatory hygiene procedures are
followed in dentistry.
