Sammanfattning
Background: There is need for meaningful day care programme for persons with dementia, as
well as an alternative and more flexible form of relief for relatives. The Care Farm programme may
offer such services, but there is also the need for more knowledge about relatives’ experiences with
the programme. Objective: To build on the knowledge of how spouses/partners experience a Care
Farm programme. Method: Using a qualitative approach, a total of seven in-depth interviews were
conducted on spouses / partners of persons with dementia participating in the Care Farm model. Data
was analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Result: The spouses/partners experienced the Care
Farm programme as health promoting, both for themselves and the person with dementia. The
program is perceived to facilitate activities that promote identity. The spouses/partners also
perceived that the persons with dementia showed satisfaction with the Care Farm programme.
Finally, the spouses/partners experienced the programme as relieving. Conclusion: Based on the
spouses/partners’ experiences, the Care Farm programme appears to be health promoting, both for
the person with dementia and their spouses/partners. Thus, the Care Farm model may be a good
measure for future practices, as the care sector strives to meet challenges related to dementia care.
