Asthma is one of the most frequent chronic diseases which complicate pregnancy. Well-controlled asthma during pregnancy reduces the risk
of for exacerbations and, consequently, the risk of adverse pregnancy outcome. Pharmacological therapy for pregnant women with asthma is a
challenge, not least due to suboptimal adherence with controller therapy and pregnant women’s concerns about harmful effects of medication on
the fetus. This review provides an update on the safety of asthma medication during pregnancy, based on recent clinical studies and international
guidelines.
