Sammanfattning

Interventions aimed at disease prevention are sometimes more cost effective than treatment or rehabilitation but the cost effectiveness needs to be assessed by health economic evaluations: The RHS-model (Hälsokalkylator) estimates the economic benefits to society when there is a positive change of people’s lifestyles at a population level and gives estimates on effects for different levels of policy and decision making. Health economic analyses of lifestyle interventions in primary care are demonstrate that these have low costs per quality adjusted year gained and are therefore recommended as cost-effective treatments. Smoking cessation is always cost effective reducing costs or saving life at low costs. If society wishes to use its resources effectively it is important to gain knowledge of the cost effectiveness of health promoting interventions so it can be used for making priorities.
