Sammanfattning

Patient reported outcome measures are necessary to inform weather health services lead to a better health also from patient’s perspectives. Today several measures are available, both generic and disease specific, with demonstrated validity and reliability informing on patient´s self-rated health and health related quality of life in terms of physical, social and mental well-being and functional ability. These measures have earlier been used mainly in research settings, but are today increasingly used in clinical routine e.g in national quality registers. There is also an ongoing work developing more effective ways of collecting data. A remaining challenge is to use results from these measurements as a basis for the improvement of health services and support important decisions, from patient’s choices of treatment to structural levels.
