Friske eldre og pasienter med Alzheimers demens. En sammenlikning av verbal hukommelsesfunksjon
Sammanfattning
Previous studies suggest that impaired memory is a core symptom for patients with Alzheimer’s dementia. The aim of this study was to investigate differences in verbal memory functions between healthy elderly and patients with Alzheimer’s dementia. 23 healthy elderly and 25 patients with Alzheimer’s dementia were assessed with California Verbal Learning Test II (CVLT-II). Both verbal immediate recall, delayed recall and recognition were assessed with CVLT-II. The results revealed that patients with Alzheimer’s dementia scored significantly lower on verbal immediate recall, delayed recall and recognition, compared to healthy elderly participants. Differences were pronounced and indicate that impaired memory is a core symptom of Alzheimer’s dementia. Results also indicated that CVLT-II may be sensitive for distinguishing normal aging from Alzheimer’s dementia.
