Sammanfattning

Within the Public Dental Health Service of Västra Götaland Region of Sweden, an assessment of water bacteriological levels is performed annually on dental unit water lines (DUWL) at more than 1026 dental units across approximately 130 clinics. In 2016, 91.4 % of clinics reported less than 100 CFU/ml in the units, a number which has gradually increased in recent years. Indeed, if those reporting less than 500 CFU/ml are also included 95.5 % units passed successfully. Despite these positive outcomes, a number of clinics and units still fail to control the bacteriology of the water regularly due to inadequate routines, negligence or inadequate cleaning procedures once high numbers of bacteria were detected.
