Perceived imbalance between work and private life might lead to ill health and
sickness absenteeism at work. Research support the fact that two factors: job
control and social support can reduce individuals’ perception of imbalance. In
this study we investigate the relationships between job control, social support
and imbalance between work and private life focusing on additive and multiplicative
effects. Data is collected in public sector (care and school) in mid
Sweden. The questionnaire was send to 743 employees and response rate
was 51 per cent. A linear regression was conducted.
Results show that job control and social support buffer against imbalance between
work and private life. There exist an additive effect, social support and job
control jointly has a higher effect on imbalance and the two factors separately.
