Cochlear implants a new sense of hearing became personal to Hans Rosling
when the grandson contracted meningitis caused by pneumococcal bacteria.
He realized that a patient organisation for parents of children with cochlear
implants could provide him with knowledge based on experience. Rosling
became an active member in Barnplantorna. A co-work initiative led to the
inclusion of the vaccine in the childhood vaccination program in Sweden
(2009). A major impact on the National Board of Health and Welfare by Hans
Rosling and colleagues, Barnplantorna and a family with a child deaf after
meningitis gave a face of meningitis in media. Hans Rosling challenged
deaf culture. He challenged the CI-clinics as well as the manufacturers of
CI with his unique insight.
