Sammanfattning
The dentist’s visual performance during dental treatment depends
on illumination, magnification and the practitioner’s age.
Dental loupes and microscopes can compensate for agerelated
visual alterations (presbyopia). With higher magnification,
better detail detection can be obtained, but depth of field
and field of view are reduced. This results in reduced overview.
Magnification can benefit orthograde endodontic treatment,
especially during identification of root canal orifices and treatment
of iatrogenic complications. This gives an opportunity
to treat teeth one would otherwise not consider saving. For
apical microsurgery, high magnification using a microscope or
endoscope can significantly increase treatment success. Using
dental loupes or an operation microscope, and an ergonomically
improved body posture during treatment can relieve the
practitioner’s body.
