Sammanfattning
The aim of this article was to describe the use of an ecological model for an adult with intellectual disability and autism who showed a high degree of challenging behavior. Six ecological factors guided the interventions. The results demonstrate a substantial decrease in challenging behavior, which then led to reduced need for coercion and restraint. The results are discussed in terms of seeking better understanding of, and how to reduce, the challenging behavior. This was done by the use of an ecological, multi-element format to consider changing the environment, support and developing reactive strategies, and improving the quality of life.
