Sammanfattning

Anxiety and depression are the two most commonly occurring disorders during childhood and adolescence. Both are linked to significant negative psychosocial outcomes. This systematic review evaluates the effects of indicated preventive interventions for anxiety and depression in children and adolescents with subclinical symptoms of anxiety and/or depression. The review includes 22 studies, with findings from 15 individual randomized controlled trials. The majority of the studies achieved a significant reduction in symptoms and/or prevented the development of clinical depression, with effect sizes ranging from low to moderate. When it comes to prevention of anxiety, and of depression and anxiety combined, there is insufficient evidence to draw any firm conclusions. Despite that, the systematic review indicates that school based interventions aimed at preventing depression can be successful.
