Sammanfattning

Schizophrenia is associated with an increased mortality rate worldwide. Life expectancy is decreased with 16 and 20 years for females and males in Denmark, respectively, despite of a free and universally accessible healthcare system. Chronic somatic diseases are more common in patients with schizophrenia, but the treatment thereof seems less common in patients than in the background population. Although mandatory screening for cardiovascular risk factors takes place, there seems to be a reduced treatment of dyslipidaemia, hypertension and diabetes in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia.
