Sammanfattning
The background for this article is a project in which three health care workers (coordinators) were trained to use selected music for persons with dementia in groups. The project’s objective was to develop a model which could qualify dementia care staff in the use of individualized music on an everyday basis. After eight weeks of music intervention, we conducted focus group interviews with the coordinators. Our findings: 1) The patients grew more aware, participated actively and displayed new aspects of their personalities during these musical encounters. 2) Fitting this activity into a busy schedule was challenging. 3) Support and follow-up was needed to continue the project.
