Genom föräldrarna hjälper vi barnen. Förväntningar på utökat barnhälsovårdprogram
Sammanfattning
In a municipality in Southern Sweden, an expanded child health care program
carried out by child health nurses and social workers was started. First-timeparents
and parents, who had just had their first child in Sweden, would be
offered support in their parental role and an increased contact with the community.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the nurses’ and social workers’
experiences of previous practices as well as their expectations at the start of
an expanded child health care program. This study had a qualitative design
with interviews. Data was analysed using qualitative content analysis. Categories
that emerged in the findings were: ”Vulnerable families in a segregated
environment” and ”A new way of working changes and enables”, each with
four subcategories. Previous interventions were not perceived as sufficient
as the target group had multifaceted support needs. The new model gave the
nurses and social workers a sense of hope for for better opportunities to support
the families, and to influence the children’s home environment.
