Sammanfattning
Boerhaave’s syndrome or spontaneous oesophageal perforation is associated with significant mortality depending on time of diagnosis and initiation of treatment. However, the diagnosis is often delayed, as the condition mimics more frequent causes of chest- and abdominal pain. This case report describes a patient with severe upper abdominal and back pain following ructus in an effort to loosen a piece of candy stuck in the oesophagus. The case demonstrates, that Boerhaave’s syndrome should always be considered in patients presenting with acute chest- or upper abdominal pain.
