Sammanfattning
Generalized trust in other people is both an individual psychological trait and
a collective trait of social contexts/societies. Some authors regard trust as an
aspect of social capital. Trust is formed by friendly relationships, reciprocity,
mutual help, equal relations, cooperation and optimism and equality and religion
in adolescence and adulthood. Particularly mid- and late adolescence
are formative years, according to the literature. Low socioeconomic status
and economic stress are associated with low generalized trust both among
adolescents and adults. Accumulation of the experience of economic stress
across the life course is associated with low trust in adulthood with seemingly
no critical period in the empirical results presented.
