Sammanfattning

Psychoanalytic theory has contributed to the structure, rationale, and content of several therapy formats used in mental health services. Group-Analytic Psychotherapy (Group Analysis; GA), which is probably the most commonly used psychodynamic group therapy in Europe, is one of these. It is mainly based on clinical experience and the research evidence is scarce but increasing. The author has done systematic research on different aspects of GA and has among other studies compared the outcome of Short- (20 sessions; 6 months) and long-term (80 sessions; 2 years) group-analytic therapy, based on randomization and use of treatment manuals. This paper describes Short-Term Focused Group-Analytic Psychotherapy (SGAP) with emphasis on evidence from research and clinical practice: patient selection and preparation, treatment phases, choice of treatment focus, and development of a treatment culture. Clinical vignettes are provided.
