Lederes erfaringer med oppfölging av sykmeldte. Kjennetegn ved enkle versus utfordrende saker
Sammanfattning
Discussion: Managers needed insight into the employee’s problems and functioning, without having to know the diagnosis. It might therefore be advisable to have some transparency about causes of absence. Otherwise, managers are left to make their own interpretations, and when these are wrong, sickness absence management might not succeed.
Introduction: Employers are obliged to make adaptions at work for persons on sick leave. However, there is a lack of research with a managerial perspective in this field.
Method: In two focus groups, leaders in a Norwegian municipality were interviewed about their experiences with sick leave management.
Results: Managers experienced sickness absence management as difficult in cases where employees did not comply with the rules, in cases with sparse or no dialog, and when there were few possibilities to make arrangements at the workplace.
