Sammanfattning

The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of myopia in a population of children in Sweden. Retrospective analysis of children in a region in Sweden referred to eye care from the national health controls of children. Anonymised patient data of prescription of glasses for myopia was used. During the study period 2008 to 2017, 297 children between 4-7 years was prescribed glasses because of myopia. The incidence for myopia increased from 0,13% to 0,36%. The prevalence of myopia for the same group has increased from 0,24% to 0,68% during 2012-2017. The study shows an slight increase of the prevalence of myopia in children in Sweden. Compared to previous research, no considerable rise could be demonstrated. An important weakness of this study is that the outcome measure is not based on refractive values. Therefore further research is needed to confirm if the prevalence of myopia in Sweden is increasing.
