Sammanfattning

This article concerns Tilia, a nonprofit internet-based organization run by youths and young adults with either current or past experiences of mental ill-health. Tilia aims to help young people who struggle with mental health issues and wants to complement the formal health care system. In the article we analyze how young people’s mental ill-health is discussed and presented on the website. The vocabulary used on Tilia.se is characterized by a flexible use of psychological and psychiatric expert languages that “normalizes” a wide range of feelings, in contrast to (expert) society’s norms and demands. There’s also an emphasis on the agency of those seeking help and on the importance of listening to young persons’ experiences and opinions.
