Sammanfattning
Changes in oral health of Icelandic children and adolescents from early investigations to the last national research, in 2005, provides the basis for dental health aims for these groups in Iceland. Dental caries has changed, with most children (50%) now having good dental health. From 1996 until 2005 caries prevalence rose in children and adolescents. In 2005 only 34% of 12-year-olds and 20% of 15-year-olds were caries-free. Dental erosion was increasingly common with
prevalence rising among 15-year-olds from 22% in 1995 to 31% in 2005. The prevalence in girls was 22.5% but in boys the prevalence was 37.4%. Dental health of Icelandic children and adolescents is not as good as that reported from other Nordic countries. Improved access to dental care began in 2013 so it is now essential to collect new information on the dental health of adolescents, in order to evaluate accurately the benefits of the new agreement.
