Sammanfattning
A new classification of periodontal and peri-implant diseases has been issued by an international expert panel. An intact periodontium is defined as a condition without loss of attachment and/or bone. Periodontal health is defined as a condition without inflammatory periodontal disease. Periodontal health may appear in combination with an intact periodontium or a reduced stable periodontium after successful periodontal treatment or in a patient with mechanically induced gingival retraction or after surgical crown lengthening. Biofilm-induced gingivitis is a reversible inflammation limited to the gingiva. Gingivitis is characterized by a probing depth ≤ 3 mm and bleeding on probing (≥ 10%). Non-biofilm-induced gingival disease may be manifestations of a range of local and systemic diseases. Periodontitis is defined by an approximal loss of attachment of at least 1 mm on at least two non-neighbouring teeth or a buccal/lingual loss of attachment of at least 3 mm on at least two teeth. Periodontitis is subdivided in four stages (I – IV) according to severity, and each stage is subdivided
in three grades (A, B, C) according to rate of progression. Furthermore, the extent and distribution of the disease must be stated.
Peri-implant mucositis is defined by bleeding and/or pus flow on probing, but no peri-implant bone loss beyond initial bone remodelling.
Peri-implantitis is defined by bleeding and/or pus flow on probing, increased probing depth compared to previous measurements and peri-implant bone loss beyond initial bone remodeling.
