Sammanfattning
Ceramic prosthetic treatment has been reserved for the adult population. The lack of a permanent therapy with longevity during adolescence for patients with severe enamel disturbances has caused suffering for patients, frustration for treating dentists and high costs for temporary dental care.
Patients with amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) have documented severe problems while waiting for permanent therapy. We have used new ceramic
materials that provide good strength, even on thin structures, to try to solve the patient’s problems. Our studies, involving a retrospective evaluation
of recommended care, a randomized clinical study (RCT) of ceramic crown therapy in adolescence, studies on oral health related quality of life, dental
fear, dental beliefs and qualitative analyses, have shown that early prosthetic therapy with ceramic crowns can be recommended in the young permanent dentition. Few side effects were seen and no crowns were loose.
