Sammanfattning
Background: The “silver tsunami” increases the pressure on municipal health care services. Technological innovations are promoted to meet the demands for sustainable care solutions for the future. However, implementation of welfare technology has proven difficult, and we need more knowledge about the co-creation between humans and technology to inform future implementation processes.
Methods: The article presents results from a two-case study conducted in two municipalities in Norway, using a triangulation of qualitative methods. The data were analysed using a stepwise deductive-inductive analysis.
Results: The empirical findings demonstrate that expectations and experiences regarding the welfare technology, the social alarm, even though it is a simple and well-established technology, are complex and multidimensional. Theoretical concepts are presented as tools for exploring these practices and for understanding the co-creation of expectation and experiences of using the technology.
Conclusions: The study illustrates how even simple established technologies integrate into the web of relations in complex practices contributing to changing the dynamics between the actors involved. The article provides theoretical tools to contribute to a better understanding of future technology innovations in caring services.
