Sammanfattning

During 2009-2018 the Swedish Social Insurance Agency financed 14 research projects concerning different aspects of the sickness insurance. Publications from these projects have here been analyzed from an equality perspective. The result shows a risk that individuals with mental or multiple diagnoses may be disfavored by current methods for assessment. Socioeconomical and health status are likely to affect the sickness absence process, its outcome and the experience of it. The importance of the psychosocial work environment for health is evident and hereby the different risks that different socio-economical groups are exposed to when returning to work after sickness absence. Health and rehabilitation consequences of early return to work should be assessed with consideration for available conditions and resources for individuals with different diagnoses. In sum, the research financed by the Swedish Social Insurance Agency shows that the conditions for sickness absence and rehabilitation differ for different socio-economical and diagnostic groups.
