Sammanfattning
This retrospective study explored
parent,s view of nursing care
during their childís anaesthesia
and recovery from it. Sample: 104
parents whose children had received
day surgery at the Ear-NoseThrote
department, Örebro Medical
Centre Hospital: the response
rate was 75%. The result showed
that on the whole parents were
satisfied with the way their child
was received and the way in
which they themselves were treated.
In general, the way that the
staff treated the children was said
to be better than the way staff treated
the parents. Seventy-three
percent of the parents expressed
satisfaction that they felt calm,
safe and well-informed, and also
that their child was calm taken
good care of, well-informed and
well îlooked after«by the staff.
However, 61% of the parents
were dissatified with for example
the lack of information, poor
(unsatisfactory) treatment by the
staff, and also the enviroment (i.e.
the waiting room, the equipment
of the recovery room and the lack
of privacy. Thirty-two percent of
the parents felt anxiety or restlessness
during the time before
the child was operated on, 45%
during the time at the hospital,
and 13% on the returning home.
