Sammanfattning

This article is based on aspects of my Advanced Masters Degree of 1996 from the University of Oslo, entitled: Pregnant in an alien country — a qualitative descriptive study based on pregnant Pakistani women's experiences when encountering Norwegian midwives/public health nurses in prenatal clinics. The study has a phenomenological perspective on nursing. Focusing on the nurse's client, data was collected from seven pregnant Pakistani women. The data is analyzed according to Giorgi's (1) methodology. The results cannot be generalized for all multicultural clients but can elucidate cultural nursing in connection with prenatal examinations of Pakistani women. The most important findings were the enormous needs of health education related to marriage, pregnancy, birth and care of the new born child.
