Sammanfattning

This article discusses the use of video recording as a method of data collection in nursing research. Nursing episodes involve various interactions that are difficult to discern and record simultaneously. Videotaped recordings can help the researcher obtain more detailed and precise information on these situations. The main advantages of the method are the density and permanence of the data collected. Its greatest limitation is the lack of contextuality; it is also time-consuming and requires financial resources. Videotaped recording requires good equipment, expertise and careful planning. Questions of patient consent are more complex in video recording than in other methods of data collection. Once the researcher has obtained the consent of her subjects, it is necessary to turn to the question of what can be recorded and how the research subject's confidentiality and anonymity can be guaranteed. Recent advances in information technology have opened up new opportunities for the transfer and closer analysis of video recordings.
