Sammanfattning
The first liver transplantation in Denmark was performed 13 years ago after a vehement debate as to whether this kind of treatment should be done in this country at all. At that time it was estimated that the yearly number of transplants would be 40, which was exactly the number performed in 2002. During the 13-year period, 449 liver transplants were performed in 391 patients. In this survey, the current indications and the principles of patient selection and evaluation, as well as postoperative management in our centre, are detailed. Standard orthotopic liver transplantation, partial liver transplants and living-donor transplants in children are on the programme to make the best use of the donor organs for the patients on the waiting list. Because of the limited number of donor livers available, an expansion of the number of indications is not advisable.
