Sammanfattning
We report an anaphylactic reaction to chlorhexidine, initially attributed to lidocaine. Allergic reactions to chlorhexidine are rare but can be life-threatening. It is important not to overlook the diagnosis. In many cases mild reactions precedes the serious ones, and we recommend that chlorhexidine be suspected when patients have skin reactions after contact with chlorhexidine. Skin reactions during a hospital stay should be entered in the notes and communicated to the patient, and referral for allergy investigation should be considered.
