Sammanfattning
Introduction: In recent years, many Danish patients with incurable cancer have been treated with localised chemotherapy at Carl von Hess Krankenhaus (CvHK) in Hammelburg, Germany, at their own expense. Materials and methods: We analysed the treatment outcome in 34 patients, 22 women and 12 men, treated at CvHK from June 1997 to July 2001. Seventeen patients (group 1) were recruited from three oncological departments. Another 17 patients (group 2) were recruited from a Danish patient interest group. Results: All 34 patients were treated with localised chemotherapy. Four patients underwent additional intravenous chemotherapy, and follow-up surgery was performed on 15 patients. Four patients showed a partial response, five patients' disease was stabilised and 11 patients' disease progressed. Evaluation of tumor response was not possible in 14 patients. The median survival period was 9.7 months. Fifteen patients experienced grade 3-4 toxicity. Two patients died of toxicity. Discussion: Treatment at CvHK cannot be recommended because of severe complications.
