Sammanfattning
INTERPRETATION : Bladder injuries and infections were more frequent than in other Nordic reports. The use of antibiotic prophylaxis led to fewer infections. When vaginal or laparoscopic hysterectomy is feasible, such operations may shorten hospital stay.
RESULTS : Supravaginal hysterectomy and vaginal hysterectomy required the shortest surgical time. 29% of all cases were complicated. There were seven bladder lesions, no ureteric lesions and one small bowel perforation. 4.4% had a reoperation. Patients not having a laparotomy had the shortest hospital stay.
MATERIAL AND METHOD : 315 women with benign disease and no prolapse who had a hysterectomy done in 2000-2001 were included. 41% of the procedures were vaginal or laparoscopic.
BACKGROUND : Since 1990 in Norway, vaginal and laparoscopic hysterectomies have replaced laparotomy in 22% of patients with benign disease. This observational study describes the short-term outcome of hysterectomy at Vestfold Hospital.
