Sammanfattning
The Danish Nurse Cohort Study comprised 24,155 female nurses aged 45 and above. This paper reports the findings of three studies on the effects of postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Current use of HRT showed no protective effect against ischaemic heart disease in healthy women, but an increased risk was found in HRT users with diabetes. An increased risk of stroke was found among hypertensive women using HRT compared to normotensive women using HRT. Both oestrogens alone and in combination with gestagen increased the risk of breast cancer. Current use of HRT, both oestrogens alone and in combination with gestagen, lowered the risk of low-energy, non-spinal fractures.
