Sammanfattning
Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate courses in rational decision making in general practice based on the results of Internet searches as part of the mandatory training for physicians intending to go into general practice. Materials and methods: Two courses of four days each were conducted in the spring of 2003 as mandatory training for physicians intending to go into general practice. The students' course evaluation consisted of self-reported efficacy and monitored skills based on case histories. Results:A total of 39 physicians participated in the two courses. The majority had previously conducted searches in electronic medical databases. However, only a minority stated that they used knowledge from searches in their daily clinical work, and very few had attended a formalised course. The evaluation demonstrated an increase in both self-reported efficacy and monitored skills. Discussion: Courses in rational decision making in general practice based on Internet searches increased both the participants' self-reported efficacy and their monitored skills. We recommend that such courses be incorporated into the new mandatory research training module for general practitioners.
