Sammanfattning
Introduction: Pain is a well-known phenomenon of Colles' fracture. We wanted to evaluate self-reported pain in patients treated conservatively after displaced Colles' fracture and see if a systematic approach to pain treatment would reduce the amount of pain. Materials and methods: Self-reported pain was compared between two consecutive series of patients. Series 1 included 23 patients and series 2, 30 patients. The amount of pain was recorded during treatment in the A&E department using a questionnaire and again after 72 hours by telephone interview. In series 2, three interventions were done to reduce the pain. Results: We found that the patients with displaced fractures in series 2 experienced significantly less pain during reduction and splinting and during the following 72 hours. Also, this group reported fewer problems sleeping. Discussion: A systematic approach to pain treatment in conservatively treated patients with a dislocated Colles' fracture may reduce the pain during reduction and splinting and during the following 72 hours.
