Sammanfattning
Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a rare and fatal neoplasm with intraabdominal gelatinous fluid accumulation due to the proliferation of mucus-secreting cells on the peritoneal surfaces. Previously, these patients were palliated by incomplete surgical debulking. Cytoreductive surgery with curative intent, including total peritonectomy, and adjuvant locoregional chemotherapy is an aggressive treatment modality being introduced in the mid-1980s. Using this treatment option, five-year survival rate of 86% has been reported.
